WWWD?: What Would Whitney Do?

October 21st, 2008

… Go to the latest SF New Tech Event; that’s what! ☺

On Wednesday, October 8, 2008, at “Mighty” at 119 Utah in beautiful San Francisco, I went to SF New Tech’s latest event featuring some really cool startups.

Apture led off showcasing their technology that turns flat pages into dynamic, multimedia web pages, kinda like our flashy Startup Schwag site. Next Lefora got a chance to show us their forum generating stuff that lets users start interest groups. Chi.mp then segued into their cool domain creation site where you can make and control your own site and email aliases; great idea for my fellow “me generation” peeps.

After three compelling Startups presented their stuff, Reframe It presented their technology that allows users to add comments in the margins of the web, just like you do in a book, which I thought was pretty sweet, given the fact that I love to interject my own editorial comments into just about anything.

One of the founders of Goldmail then stepped up and showed off their capacity to record your voice in conjunction with things like a PowerPoint presentation that you can then distribute via email, to replace those long, drawn out conference calls that nobody likes. Then Snappr.net came up and showed us how to use their mobile interaction with 1D and 2D Barcodes. And last, but certainly not least, PBWiki came up and thoroughly impressed the audience with their hot wiki builder.

After the demos were finished, I met a bunch of really cool, interesting people, including but not limited to a couple VCs, a guy from this very current server hosting/cloud computing company called ServePath, and Joey Mucha, the Marketing Manager for a multimedia widget building company, Sprout.

I got a chance to chat at length with Joey about some of the cool stuff they have going on at Sprout and why sweet merch like the stuff from Startup Schwag is relevant in his line of work:

I can’t wait for the next event!

Stay tuned for more of WWWD?…
